Wout Weghorst has said he is "hungry" to showcase his talent with Manchester United in the Premier League after signing for the Red Devils from Besiktas.

After Burnley cut short his stint at Besiktas, Weghorst joined United this month on a loan move that will go until the end of the season.

Following Burnley's relegation, the 30-year-old scored nine goals in 18 appearances in Turkey but he is eager to establish himself in England's top division after scoring just twice in his previous 20 Premier League games.

"For me, it was not done, it was not finished. It didn’t work out the first time as I hoped, and I’m really hungry to show myself, to help the team," Weghorst said.

"Of course, we are on a really good track now. The last couple of weeks, months actually, it’s going really positive here and I just want to contribute and give my best and give my all for the club and I try to be a part of the successful (direction) we are going."

In 16 league games with Besiktas, Weghorst led the team with eight goals and four assists.

The striker stole the headlines in the Netherlands' FIFA World Cup 2022 quarter-final match against Argentina last month when he scored two late goals for his country.

Weghorst has acknowledged the call inquiring about a prospective transfer to Old Trafford surprised him.

"My agent called me actually for the first time and I was with my girl, and she was a little bit shocked because she saw my face and I was like, ‘Oof’. So yeah, it was a special moment.

"For me, (to play for) the biggest club is, of course, amazing, and as I've always said as a football player, and also as a human being, the stage I am at now, the (experience) that I have, I am ready for it. This is the right moment to take on this great challenge, of course."

After visiting Selhurst Park in the middle of the week, United, which is fourth in the Premier League standings, travels to league leaders Arsenal on Sunday.
